Interview with Joe “JoeIngram1″ Ingram

By Sean Gibson - December 10th, 2009

Joe “JoeIngram1″ Ingram plays a massively multi-tabling style on PokerStars and recently won a huge prop bet by playing over 50,000 hands in a 24-hour period while showing a profit. For accomplishing his goal, Ingram won upwards of $30,000 and has gained a ton of attention here at Poker Table Ratings and even on the PokerStars official blog. During the video where he finishes off the prop bet, he even gave a shout out to PTR and all our visitors as he’s stated that we’re one of his favorite sites. We met with Ingram in person for this interview to discuss his feat, what it took to get done and what the future might hold for him.

Youtube Video before the prop bet:

Joe Ingram hits 50k+ hand within 24 hours, while still turning a profit:

Our interview with JoeIngram1:

Sean: What’s it feel like to win over $30,000 in 20 hours ($1,500/hr) and do you think you’ll be able to repeat that feeling again in poker?

Joe Ingram: It felt like the best feeling from doing anything in my life ever. Originally it felt like something that was so impossible to do. I remember when I started out playing, I never hoped to actually make a significant amount of money at poker. What else could I do to achieve that same feeling? Another prop bet would definitely do it along with playing in big stakes games and winning.

Sean: According to your PTR records you’ve played about 900k hands at 100nl and marginally won there, but showed good profit playing 6max and higher limits. Why is that happening?

Joe Ingram: I think my style of play is much more suited for the 6max game as I played super agro and I can value bet thinner and people don’t always have AA or KK and shove preflop like they do when they nit it up at full ring. It’s a looser game and that definitely favors me. People have been telling me for ages that I’m better off in the 6max game and next year I’ll be playing that game.

Sean: Why the shout out to PTR in your 50k hand video (BTW we appreciated it!)?

Joe Ingram: Ya I was obviously delierious in that video as you could tell by my “I just played 50,000 US Hands!” my language was all messed up because I was so excited I won the bet and mentally tired. I gave the shout out to PTR because I love that site and that site made me pretty noteworthy in the industry. I’m very grateful that I have a lot of comments, I think top 10 for comments and maybe top 20 for most views.

Sean: There’s a lot of haters out there that have posted various derogatory comments about your game. Are you upset about those types of people or have you accepted that they’ll always be haters?

Joe Ingram: Everyone is not going to like you and I’ve accepted that, just because my win rate isn’t X or whatever, they will find excuses. People will hate you even by the way you look, even though I look pretty f’ing good anyways. People will always hate, I might talk crap back to them and most of them are bad at poker and living a bad life. They are jealous and have nothing better to do, so against those people I’ll talk crap. For the most part really I’m just having fun with it all and I really don’t mind it at all.

Sean: PTR is a site that has grown in popularity with online poker regs. What are your favorite features about the site?

Joe Ingram: The session reviews and being able to keep track of things helps me look back at everything, and in some cases even goes past what HEM can do. I like the fact that you can scout your opponents and that helps when you play higher stakes. I like the community asepect and the ability to leave comments on people because there’s a lot of people on PTR that aren’t in the forums so interacting with them is great.

Sean: Is there anyone who can get ladies better?

Joe Ingram: Ya Brad Pitt. I think like, hmm … 1 other guy.

Sean: What are your thoughts on Data mining?

Joe Ingram: I don’t really mind it and I think it’s kinda cool to know who’s winning and who’s losing because everyone talks so much crap about the game. If those people are losers then it’ll be apparent because we can just look them up. It’s exposed a lot of people who are really full of it. I like the fact that fans can keep track of their favorite players too.

Sean: Will we ever see you play in the WSOP in 2010?

Joe Ingram: I am definitely playing this summer in 2010 and will play some but not all of the WSOP events. I expect to have enough money that losing $10k won’t be a big deal. If I got to the featured table on ESPN I would definitely show my outgoing personality and do something funny wear a t-shirt with my own name on it. I’d really love the experience.

Sean: Is there anyone you would be really scared to death to play live?

Joe Ingram: Ya probably durrrr because he’s damn crazy. I think with most live pros I would just mess with and pwn but durrrr is just a whole different beast. But I’ll be playing him one day, that’s for sure.

Sean: What are your thoughts on SNE? Will you accomplish that in 2010?

Joe Ingram: I really don’t know, if I play well at the higher stakes then I am not going to worry about playing a ton of hands and making SNE. I’ll probably get it anywyas but it’s not in the game plan to do it.

Sean: Who would you like to give a shout out to that helped you in your efforts to break the record?

Joe Ingram: My roommate “Dashorman” who kept track of everything and gave me food and drinks while updating the forums. My friend “BW07507” also brought some food and offered encouragement and helped keep me awake and was on top of any anti-tilt behavior. Zachvac was there and helping me out too with various tasks. Another friend, Derek, was awesome as well, even though he fell asleep at one point. Also, I want to thank all the people that followed me on the webcam and talked to me through the internet the whole time. All those small stakes regs to who came to talk to me and wish me good luck on the forums, they really helped keep me motivated – those guys were great.

this guy got me for $450.00 last night, yes he is a good player but he was hit over the head with the luck stick vs me, he called my 8X bb pfr when he was in ep with 6-7 suited i had KK, he flopped his 7 and checked i bet the pot as i was in position and had KK, he insta called and hit his three sevens on the turn(lol).and another hand i flopped my K high flush (kq suited) only to have that 4th diamond hit the river (lol)he called all my raises chasing that nut flush!!(a-10 off) and of course i called his river shove (lol) 52-1 that he did NOT have that A of diamonds!! i guess just like Joe Cada’s add the guys who work the most on there game make there own luck. i have to admit i never heard of the guy till after i played against him. maybe i would not have lost as much if i knew he was a big time pro.
