As you’ve probably noticed by now, the official Player of the Year 2009 voting has begun here at Poker Table Ratings. Each registered member at our site will get 10 votes and can distribute them as they please and vote for players eligible at each stakes level , from the micro-stakes, to the low stakes ($0.50-$1 to $1-$2), to the medium stakes games ($2-$4 through $5-$10), up through the high stakes ($10-$20 to $50-$100) all the way to the nosebleed games ($100-$200 and up).
There’s a lot of different criteria that anyone might use to judge just who is the Player of the Year at their given stakes level. For some it’s just about who made the most money during the year. Others will point to players that have played less hands and yielded much greater win-rates. Some just want to vote for the craziest maniacs they’ve ever seen because they admire their guts. Whatever it may be, the 10 votes given to you are yours alone and you can spend them as you see fit. The Poker Player of the Year standings page is updated every 20 min.
Remember to vote for the people who you feel deserve the Player of the Year award the most. Maybe you want that person to be yourself, so now would be a great time to get all your buddies here at PTR to vote for you. Let’s take a look at some top earners for each stakes level (minus the nosebleed games which will come in an upcoming article) to see who might be the favorites for this year’s awards for the Hold’em games.
Micro Stakes – $0.25-$0.50 Games and Below
Mairastyle, Full Tilt Poker – $17,102 in 378,000 hands for 4.5BB/100
JBLS23, Full Tilt Poker – $17,040 in 190,00 hands for 8.96 BB/100
Stoystar, Full Tilt Poker – $15,571 in 610,000 hands for 2.55BB/100
Any one of these three are probably deserving of your vote. We have a player that grinded out a sick number of hands for a modest win-rate in Stoystar, a player that played a good amount of hands with a solid win-rate in Mairastyle and finally a guy that played the last amount of hands but won at nearly twice the next highest player’s rate. Most of the players at 25nl and below just didn’t come close in terms of money, but we’re definitely keeping an eye on these micro-stakes types to make a dent in the low stakes games in 2010.
Low Stakes – $0.50-$1 through $1-$2 Games
Players from the 100nl ($0.50-$1) Games
Jrockhaf, PokerStars – $74,181 in 909,855 hands for 4.08BB/100
Ronfar3, PokerStars – $70,075 in 1,790,000 hands for 1.96BB/100
Vinivici9586, PokerStars – $62,680 in 1,520,000 hands for 2.06BB/100
Players from the 200nl ($1-$2) Games
OMGBentley – PokerStars, $106,885 – 1,292,000 hands for 2.07BB/100
Pobolero – PokerStars, $102,376 – 641,800 hands for 3.99BB/100
Browerkid – PokerStars, $96,236 – 1,437,000 hands for 1.67BB/100
ESKOTEIRO – Absolute Poker, $88,305 – 434,984 hands for 5.08BB/100
Milwaukee2 – PokerStars, $81,299 – 318,954 hands for 6.37BB/100
BerlinsBest – Full Tilt Poker, $78,523 – 535,000 hands for 3.67BB/100
All three guys from 100nl had great years and really gorgeous steady upwards graph with “jrockhaf” holding a big advantage for win-rate. The 200nl players have some really interesting names ranging from “OMGBentley” who’s played a huge amount of hands (along with “browerkid”) to a player like “Milwaukee2” who has an unreal win-rate for this level. The others are all well known regulars that regularly are ranked in the top earners every month in 2009. Some people have said that “BerlinsBest” might be the best pure and consistent player out of the bunch. Those of you that have faced these players at the tables can have your say on who’s your pick for the best of 2009.
Medium Stakes – $2-$4 through $5-10 Games
400nl Players
GUIGUI_88 – Absolute Poker, $260,571 – 743,400 hands for 4.3BB/100
Nanonoko – PokerStars, $222,274 – 642,965 hands for 4.3BB/100
RobSainter – Full Tilt Poker, $159,924 – 476,000 hands for 4.2BB/100
600nl Players
Nanonoko – $311,772 in 887,769 hands for 2.93BB/100
Jenn415 on PokerStars – $202,279 in 832,250 hands for 2BB/100
Thenutspt on PokerStars – $168,024 in 343,300 hands for 4.08BB/100
1Knl ($5-$10) Players
DrGiggy – Full Tilt Poker – $385,839 in 400,000 hands for 4.82BB/100
Nanonoko – PokerStars – $302,429 in 473,000 hands for 3.19BB/100
Tim0thee – Full Tilt Poker – $298,445 in 476,868 hands for 3.13BB/100
Higgy1020 – Bodog – $226,628 in 155,929 hands for 7.28BB/100
It’s really hard not to endorse “nanonoko” in this category as he shows up at both 400nl and 600nl levels for top money earned for the year. There’s some other really great names on this list too, ranging from a variety of poker sites. He’s garnered over $1 million this year between all the stakes and has a huge following. It’d be a bit of an upset if he didn’t win but the other names in this category are all well deserving.
High Stakes – $10-$20 through $50-$100
$10-$20 Players
MacDaddy34, Full Tilt Poker – $257,880 in 111,169 hands for 5.8BB/100
Jungleman12, Full Tilt Poker – $227,401 in 87,695 hands for 6.48BB/100
Deldar182, PokerStars – $223,708 in 94,000 hands for 5.95BB/100
G0N3INW1ND, Absolute Poker – $219,601 in 46,100 hands for 11.9BB/100
$25-$50 Players
Nutsinho, PokerStars – $936,139 in 196,800 hands for 4.75BB/100
Takechip, PokerStars – $510,200 in 217,00 hands for 2.35BB/100
Tjbentham, PokerStars – $502,118 in 135,534 hands for 3.7BB/100
Mirttinur, Full Tilt Poker – $386,690 in 43,700 hands for 8.84BB/100
$50-$100 Players
TODOALATAQUE, Absolute Poker – $628,433 in 10,434 hands for 30BB/100
ZeeJustin, Full Tilt Poker – $463,895 in 38,290 hands for 6BB/100
luvtheWNBA, Full Tilt Poker – $390,710 in 20,131 hands for 9.7BB/100
There’s so many deserving players that this might be the tightest race of them all. A ton of guys at each one of these levels had amazing years and results. From the upper level of the high stakes we saw players put in hands and win at breakneck rates. The top winner in terms of money, “nutsinho” is probably the favorite but there’s some real great players here like “ZeeJustin” and “luvtheWNBA” that have a great following as well.

Apparently this ryland1989 dude is trying to turn this into a popularity contest. Trying to buy people out with $1/vote. Could consider banning him from voting when results come in.
Nutsinho

camcaron should be on player of the year list for 25-50 nl medium stakes and high. ptr misses so many players hands on ub, ap and other sites that get no love. its all about the big marketing names from full tilt and pokerstars that get all the attention. watch when camcaron and s on my chest and xblink and self made and some of these other guys make the move to full tilt poker everyones going to be all over their jock strap and paying all kinds of attention to them. typical stupid marketing.
