PTR News Roundup

By Paul Ellis - July 28th, 2010

NewsThe Brunson 10 is almost complete as both Daniel “djk123″ Kelly and David “Doc” Sands were named to the elite team of Poker Pro’s. Fresh off an impressive series culminating with a win in the $25k 6-max event at the 2010 WSOP, Kelly finished the summer with 4 cashes and the 1 bracelet for a total of $1,338,609 at the summer series, and won the honor of the nomination through a points system. Finishing 2nd in the points system was Sands, who tallied 5 WSOP cashes for a total of $107,484 including a final table in event #5, the $1,500 No-Limit Hold’em event. Kelly and Sands will join Steve Gross, Chris Moorman, Zachary Clark, Amit Makhija, Dani Stern, and Alex Kamberis as members of the Brunson 10, and don the Green Brunson 10 logos at tournaments around the globe.

Pokerstars has a new CEO in Gabi Campos, who while he began his new roll as a nonoperational consultant last Monday, will assume full duties as the active CEO for the Worlds Largest Poker site in October. Campos’ most recent position was with the business-to-business branch of 888’s Dragonfish which he left last month. PokerStars founder Isai Scheinberg will remain in his Chief Technical Officer while his son Mark will take over as the Chariman. In an internal memo, Mark Scheinberg writes “both Isai and myself will continue to be closely involved in the company’s strategic direction and building on the success we have all achieved together as a team over the last 10 years. We are excited about this new chapter in the PokerStars story, and look forward to Gabi’s leadership in taking the company forward to continued success.”

In some online news, jungleman12 may be the next player to step up to the “durrrr challenge,” and not necessarily wait for Patrik Antonius to continue the saga that Tom Dwan and he began what seems like forever ago. In a $100/$200 no-limit hold’em game, Dwan asked junleman12 about taking him up on the offer in the chat room, and the conversation was public for all to see:

durrrr: ok gg

If you’re in the gabling mood, you can also place a wager on who will win the final bracelet of the WSOP. The main event, which is now down to a final table of 9, will resume its action beginning in the Penn and Teller Theater of the Rio in Las Vegas on November 6th, and all 9 players have had a line placed on them to either win, or get to heads up play. Michael ‘The Grinder’ Mizrachi comes in at +500, and chip leader Jonathan Duhamel leads action with a +275. To check out the odds on which player will take down the almost $9 million first place prize, you can check BetUS.com here.

Finally, Full Tilt Poker has announced that it has renewed the sponsorship of the Million Dollar Cash game for a further 3 years. After four season of play with some of the games top players, including Phil Ivey, Patrik Antonius, Tom Dwan, Phil Hellmuth and many more, the show will begin taping its 5th season on September 8th and 9th and will be broadcast on Sky Sports in January 2011.
