oovoo99 Crushing $25/$50 NL

By Robson Fletcher - August 19th, 2010

UGL High StakesAfter nearly three weeks in August, the cream of the 25/50 NL crop is rising to the top, and five players now boast six-figure monthly profits.

At the top of the leaderboard as of this writing was oovoo99, who sat in second place last week but has since added more than $50,000 to his August winnings on the iPoker network, which now total nearly $180,000. Nearly all of that comes from heads-up play. One of oovoo99’s bigger wins came in this particular encounter, where he minraised 74-suited on the button and rivered a straight against his opponent’s flopped trips.

In second place was x6th_street, who continues to run hot on PartyPoker and now enjoys nearly $170,000 in monthly earnings on the site. Much of that came from a recent session at a full-ring table which played heads-up most of the time. After 337 hands against several opponents, x6th_street was up more than $25,000.

And in third place was Sauce123, who has made a remarkable comeback after his bottom line bottomed out last month. The PokerStars regular has earned more than $100,000 in August at 25/50 NL as part of a massive upswing which has seen his career earnings on the site go from nearly $90,000 in the red to more than $330,000 in the black over the past several weeks.

At 10/20 NL, Klo44 was out in front for the third straight week. After 14,000 hands in August, the PartyPoker player had nearly $64,000 in profit at these stakes, thanks in large part to a recent session which netted him more than $13,000. One of his largest pots during that stretch came midway through the session, when he flopped a flush and his opponent turned a straight.

Meanwhile, aejones moved from third place last week to second place this week after another strong series of sessions at these stakes. A big part of his winnings came in this hand, where he flopped top two pair against his opponent’s big ace and took down a pot worth nearly $7,500.

And in third place was TooBusyStackin, who hasn’t played much at these stakes in the past week but still managed to pick up about $2,500 in his last 100 or so hands of full-ring play. His most recent big pot came in this spot, where he 3-bet pocket kings on the button against an opponent’s pocket eights and got it all in on the turn on a 9-high board.

Over at 5/10 NL, several players continue to jostle for top spot on the UGL leaderboard.

In first place as of this writing was TheoDorand, who sat in second place last week but picked up another $4,000 in profit since then and now sits with more than $40,000 in monthly winnings. The PartyPoker newcomer has enjoyed a solid run at the 5/10 NL heads-up games so far but has not fared as well at the 10/20 NL stakes, where his losses have dragged his bottom line on the site to nearly -$71,000.

Another PartyPoker player, Lillifee, has climbed into second place. This short-handed specialist was in fourth place last week but picked up about $5,000 in additional profit over the last seven days to inch ever closer to a UGL title. This recent session accounted for more than half of that profit as Lillifee grinded out nearly $2,800 over 261 hands.

Last week’s leader, meanwhile, suffered a bit of a setback. BUECKSTABUE now sits in third place following a nearly $5,000 downswing at these stakes over the past week. The PartyPoker player took some tough beats lately, like in this particular hand, where he correctly sniffed out his opponent’s semi-bluff on a low, two-diamond flop and called a shove with only ace-high. Unfortunately for BUECKSTABUE, his opponent missed the flush but ended up rivering a pair and scooping the $2,600 pot.
