iPoker Splits Micro to Mid Stakes NL Games

News

Earlier this week, the iPoker split finally took place, although their hasn't been much clarity as to what it means or what has actually been separated.

Thus far it seems that the split is across No Limit cash and SNG tables from micros to mid-stakes, although this may change in future updates. The guys over at PokerFuse have done a great job of compiling an iPoker Split FAQ about the split, and we recommend all our iPoker members check the article out to see how it affects them.

On our end, we're monitoring the situation and will provide updates on how this affects your player profiles. So far, we estimate that roughly 30% of hands for the iPoker network as a are played on iPoker 1 rooms.

Overall, the split should result in softer games on iPoker 2, now that the rakeback grinders of some of the smaller iPoker 1 skins are being forced to fight it out with each other without the opportunity to take advantage of the new players joining every day via the player acquisition efforts of the larger skins.

Users interested in making the jump over to the iPoker 2 network can get an ...

Update on PokerStars profiles on PTR

NewsWe have received several requests from users to have their PokerStars player profiles unblocked from view.

Unfortunately we have not yet received the green light from PokerStars to be able to allow players to view their own personal profiles here on PTR.

We urge all interested users who wish to be able to view their profiles and to have them update with new hands to contact the support team at PokerStars directly, as we currently do not collect PokerStars hands or allow for any viewing of Stars profiles on PTR today.

Any changes to the situation regarding PokerStars players will not occur without their consent. Stay tuned to our blog for any updates on this ongoing feature discussion.

Ongame ring-fence rumor mill

The wheels are surely in motion for the big Ongame skins (Betfair, Betsson and Betsafe) to make their split onto their own network and today rumors surfaced that the three biggest skins on the Ongame network have ring-fenced their cash games from 2c/4c limits up to $2/$4 games.

Now, let's crush this rumor right here and now: PTR has checked with all the various poker skins that all tables are available and playable.

That said, for a while now the big skins have been talking about separating from the existing Ongame poker network for several reasons including legitimizing their network, reducing the number of under-the-table rakeback deals and to retain the value of the players that they spend considerable marketing dollars on and not losing them to or sharing them with the sharks on the other networks.

What would it mean for players?

Currently, Betfair, Betsafe, and Betsson have a fairly casual sportsbook and casino player pool that are playing poker there, with very few people to jump in and play for the relatively easy money. Of course, it hasn't happened yet so hold tight and watch this news item for updates.

And the Betfair Premier ...

Full Tilt CEO Ray Bitar Speaks, Apologetic

11 months have passed since Black Friday, and today was the first response of any kind from a member of Full Tilt's board of directors. Tuesday, Full Tilt Poker CEO Ray Bitar finally ended the almost year-long silence, while still revealing very little in an exclusive interview on PokerStrategy.

One of the original founders of Full Tilt Poker, Bitar currently still works with Full Tilt as the operating Chief Executive Officer. In the interview, he gave little away on the legal matters facing Full Tilt from the Department of Justice, or the timetable for the rumored purchase of Full Tilt by Groupe Bernard Tapie. However, he did answer three basic questions, the last of which was an opportunity to issue a public apology. "I would like to offer my sincere apology to all who have been affected by these events and to clarify that my silence was not an attempt to 'hide' or 'ignore' the situation," said Bitar. "My entire focus is on obtaining a successful resolution for the players. I hope that before long I can provide some good news for all of the players involved."

A former equities trader in Los Angeles, California, Bitar forged a friendship ...

Bodog's Calvin Ayre Responds to Indictments

Bodog DoJ

On Tuesday, Federal Prosecutors in Maryland unsealed an indictment against former Canadian billionaire Calvin Ayre, the founder of Bodog. The site was once one of the world's largest online gambling companies, but has been inactive for quite some time. The indictment accuses Ayre of operating an illegal gambling business involving sports betting as well as conspiring to commit money laundering. The DoJ and Homeland Security also saw fit to seize the inactive web domain of Bodog.com as part of their sanctions being levied against Ayre and the site.

The flamboyant Ayer became a central figure from within the online gambling industry when he was the focus of a 2006 Forbes.com cover story titled "Catch Me If You Can" where Ayers said "we run a business that can't actually be described as gambling in each country we operate in. But when you add it together, it's Internet gambling." For years after, Ayers was able to dodge US law enforcement agencies despite continuing to operate questionable operations of online sports betting and casino games to US gamblers.

Bodog Launches Anonymous Tables

Bodog Switches to Anonymous Tables Site WideIn an attempt to make their games friendlier for recreational players, Bodog released an update today with significant and controversial changes to their poker client:

  • Player names and avatars removed (truly anonymous tables)

  • Note taking removed

  • "Sit out next big blind" feature added

  • Icon added to the top right of tables to launch in-client Blackjack

  • Preferred seating removed

  • Added a "Rabbit Cam" to see remaining community cards even if the hand has finished.

  • "Points to cash" feature removed

  • "Auto muck" feature removed

In a classic example of news release spin, Bodog also announced that players can now "play up to 20 tables". Tournament tables, yes, and only assuming there are enough active tournaments to play in. Cash and SNG's are still limited to a 4 table maximum.

Following up on a Calvin Ayre piece slamming poker tracking sites like PokerScout, this latest move is another example of Bodog trying to better accommodate recreational players. By limiting the amount of external information players can gain on and off the tables, the playing field has essentially been made equal for everyone.

A screenshot of the new Bodog poker client, with seat numbers only and much chastised redesign:
