PokerTableRatings.com uses a massive database of compiled player results to assess the quality of play at online poker tables. The players at each table are evaluated based upon their VP$IP, long term losses vs. long term winnings, and the total amount of data recorded for the players. Each player's data is then compiled to provide a composite rating for that table. If the rating is high, you can be assured that you will be playing at a soft table with huge potential profits. If the rating is low, you can avoid that table and spend your time in a more profitable game. Example: FullTilt $1/$2 NL. Back to Questions

The player overview pages and the "best" lists are calculated on different timers, so it is entirely possible that the numbers are different between the two. This is not a bug. The overview page will generally have the more up to date information regarding a player. Back to Questions
This rating is from 0 to 100 and higher is better. The exact formula is proprietary, however we say that it takes many factors into account such as career/recent win rates, career/recent hands played, and winnings. The rating can change very often, even daily, based on the play habits and winnings of the player. Back to Questions
Our database is large and complex, so when we work on it we may bring down a small portion of it at a time. As such you'll notice that you are only getting partial results for a period of time. The data is not lost, when we bring the database back you'll see all the results as expected. Back to Questions
We've implemented algorithms that automatically detect abuse of our free service, include automation, over usage, and hacking attempts. These bans are normally temporary and will be lifted within a few days. Back to Questions
The Hot or Not rating quantifies just how well a player is running. It is based entirely on short term winnings. A player rated a 50 is running about average, with a player rated 100 running extremely Hot, and a player rated 0 is running extremely Not. Please note that this rating is based more on quantity of winnings than on rate, so if you've won $1,000 over 10,000 hands you could have a similar rating to someone who won $1,000 over 1,000 hands, assuming they were all played very recently at similar stakes, even though your win rates are much different. Also known as the Human Robot Score, this score attempts to determine if the playing habits of a player are within the realm of human abilities. This score is based on a composite of a variety of factors including the length of their sessions, the standard deviation of those lengths, times played, and consistency of play schedule. A player rated 0 has entirely unpredictable play habits and a player rated 100 would have extremely consistent, almost impossibly long sessions with extremely low variance in length or schedule. We leave interpretation of this score up to the user. Back to Questions
The Tilt Tendency rating measures how often, for how long, and how badly a player goes on "tilt." Tilt is defined as having a downswing that is orders of magnitude larger than their average downswing, as determined by standard deviation from the mean. A player with a rating of 0 would be extremely stable with almost no tendency towards tilt, while a player with a rating of 100 would be extremely prone to tilting. This rating does not say anything about the player's winnings or win rate, simply how often and how severe their sudden large downswings are. A player with a very poor win rate can have a very low Tilt Tendency rating and conversely, a player with an extremely positive win rate can have a very high Tilt Tendency rating. Similarly, a player with a high variance play style isn't necessarily going to have a high tilt rating because his swings won't be far off of the standard deviation, swings are his "norm." There have not been any reports of any player having their funds confiscated from any poker site for using PokerTableRatings.com.
Anytime you access a player's PTR page it counts as a search. After accessing a player's page, you have a 30 minute grace period where you will not be charged a search for the same player. You can click around the sub pages and refresh the page within the 30 minute period without consuming a search.

For Premium Members, the Table Finder counts as 5 searches, and the WebHUD counts as 2 searches per table. This is generous because the Table Finder and WebHUD access the stats of many players behind the scenes. The 30 minute grace period also applies to the Table Finder and WebHUD where the same type of table will not consume additional searches for 30 minutes.

To Recap:

Player Search - Costs 1 Search
(Premium Only) Table Finder - Costs 5 Searches
(Premium Only) WebHUD - Costs 2 Searches/Table

A 30 minute grace period allows you to repeat the same search within 30 minutes without counting as a search.
