ESPN Final Table Discussion

What's everyone's thoughts on the WSOP Final Table coverage? As a poker player I prefer more poker and less drama and it seems things have been moving more and more towards drama. It felt like I was watching Bob Costas cover the Olympics.

I agree on the coverage being difficult to follow due to the low amount of hands covered. I'm all for whatever gets people watching poker, but I myself, would rather see more hands covered. One idea I had yesterday would be to have a hand ticker in the corner, so at least when they flip to a new highlight, you can get some semblance of what has happened, time expired, etc.

I did like how they added position to the telecast this year. Very helpful.

We all know that we're not watching live poker, so why not tell it more like a story. "8 hands later after some uneventful blind stealing, ______ makes a move from EP. . .etc."

You can download the entire coverage that was on ESPN3. It has every hand and some decent commentary, but you don't get the hole card info. Also, it's well over 10 hours.

That's a great idea, especially a hand counter in the bottom corner or something like that.

The Game Just About the Game! Too much things around....Drama drama & Drama. It was a bit too much for me. And its sad cause I think we had a amazing final table, with lots of actions!

Yep, I hate the circus thing. Just give me the poker. What I really hate is the dealer waits for about 30 seconds between dealing the flop, turn, and river. I only watched a bit because it's unwatchable rubbish. I hate that the game has become a circus. I hope to see the game contract. It will mean less money, but I prefer that, to what I am seeing at the moment. I prefer quality to hype. Media ruins so many things, and now it's ruining poker.

Some of the most important hands are the kind they don't cover. The sort that involves small ball poker, small steals, and tptk against top pair small kicker or top pair against middle pair. They don't cover those small pots and small hands that involve good judgement. What they love to show is big bluffs and big all in match ups. It's edited so you have no idea about the flow of the game that leads to the big bluffs and all in match ups.
