Player Backstory

Ilari Sahamies is one of the most well known and successful high stakes players in the online poker world today, specializing in PLO cash games. Like many poker players, Sahamies also was exceptional at billiards, holding two Finnish Junior Championships. It was through billiards where he met fellow Finn Patrik Antonius and began playing poker at the age of 15, eventually going pro at 20.

Ilari is one of the elite group of players that consistently plays only the highest stakes on PokerStars. You will often find him playing long sessions of $200/400 Pot Limit Omaha, as well as $200/400 NLHE for 8 hours at a time or more, spread across five or six tables.

He won the Online Player of the Year award at the Scandinavian Poker Awards in 2008. Ilari has made TV appearances on Poker After Dark and High Stakes Poker in 2009. He currently plays regularly on PokerStars under "Ilari FIN".
